Allama Qamruzzama Azmi is a British Indian Sufi Muslim Scholar and Preacher. He is the Khalifa of former Mufti e Azam e Hind, Huzur Mustafa Raza Khan Khan qadri (a blessed son of Mujaddid Ahmed Raza Khan Hanafi Qadri[1] He is regarded as tallest Islamic Muslim cleric of United Kingdom. The PM appreciated the community services of the renowned spiritual scholar Allama Azmi and said that his work was contributing greatly towards community integration and promotion of inter-faith dialogue. His Eminence Huzoor Mufakkir-e-Islam Hazrat Allama Maulana Qamaruzzaman Azmi is the Khalifaa of His Holiness Mufti-e-Azam Hazrat Maulana Mustafa Raza Khan, the holy son of Imam Ahmed Raza Khan Qadri Barelwi (May Allah have mercy on them) as well as Sarkar-e-Kalan Hazrat Maulana Sayyid Mohammed Mukhtar Ashraf, Sajjada Nasheen from Kichow-Chah Shareef (May Allah have mercy on him). His Eminence was born into a deeply religious and educated family on March 23, 1946 in Azamgarh district of Uttar Pardesh state, India. He was given the name Mohammad Khan Qamaruzzaman Azmi. His illustrious father was Molvi Abdul Hameed Khan who was the son of Molvi Abdul Samad Khan (May Allah have mercy on them).

He learned Persian and Urdu from his father and grandfather and received the first Islamic education from a local institution called Anwar-ul-Uloom. Allama Azmi became known for his piety and great intellectual and scientific skills from an early age. No wonder he was admitted to one of India's top Islamic institutions, Ashrafia, Azamgarh, at the age of twelve. From there he attended the famous Nadwat-ul-Ulema University at the age of eighteen, where he obtained his Aalim degrees and then returned to Ashrafia University where he was awarded the Dastar-e-Fazilat (Turban of Honor) and the Sanad (Islamic degrees) by the hands of the founder of that university,


He was ordered by His Holiness Hafiz-e-Millat Hazrat Maulana Abdul Aziz Muhaddith-e-Muradabadi (May Allah have mercy on him) to go to Faizabad (near Lucknow) in 1966 at the age of eighteen. going to begin his missionary work. At that tender age of eighteen, he founded the Islamic University, Al-Jamiatul-Islamia, which is now recognized as one of India's top Islamic universities. In 1973, an agreement was made in the holy city of Mecca to establish the first international Sunni organization, The World Islamic Mission. The great Ra'ees-ul-Qalam Hazrat Allama Arshad-ul-Qadri has invited Hazrat Allama Azmi to act with him as the Joint Secretary General. His Eminence subsequently moved to Bradford, Great Britain in 1974.


Much has been written about His Eminence all over the world. Saut-ul-Azhar, the Egyptian newspaper recently devoted an extensive piece on his life, contributions and scientific speeches. Elsewhere, newspapers and magazines in India, Pakistan, the Middle East, South Africa, Europe, America and Canada have written hundreds of articles about him. A collection of extraordinary scientific speeches by his hand has already been published in three volumes. Part one was compiled by Maulana Mohammed Rehan Raza Misbahi and Maulana Abdullah Azmi in a 376-page book consisting of twelve major speeches on Khutbaat-e-Muffakir-e-Islam law (Speeches of the Great Thinker of Islam) published by Maktaba Taiba, Mumbai, India. Part two was turned into a 512-page book, consisting of nineteen speeches compiled by Maulana Mohammed Sajid Hussain Qadri entitled Khutbaat-e-Muffakir-e-Islam (Speeches of the Great Thinker of Islam) and published by Maktaba Taiba, Hyderabad. This was launched by Tajus-sharia Hazrat Maulana Mufti Akhtar Raza Khan and Mohaddith-e-Kabir Hazrat Allama Zia-ul-Mustafa (see the Daily Mansaf and the Daily Sayaasat, February 20, 2004). Part three was turned into a 240 page book consisting of eleven speeches entitled Ilmi taqreeray'n (scientific speeches) compiled by Imran Hussain Chaudhary and published by the Sunni Foundation in Pakistan in 2008. This was launched by Tajus-sharia Hazrat Maulana Mufti Akhtar Raza Khan and Mohaddith-e-Kabir Hazrat Allama Zia-ul-Mustafa (see the Daily Mansaf and the Daily Sayaasat, February 20, 2004). His collection of poetry Khayabaan-e-Midhat Volume One was published in 2007 by Maktaba Taiba, Mumbai, India and Volume Two in 2011 by the Sunni Foundation in Pakistan. These publications have been praised by newspaper critics, scholars and intellectuals around the world. He has written more than 200 articles which are currently collected and published under the title Maqaalat-e-Muffakir-e-Islam. His books like Jamaal-e-Mustafa are already in circulation in India. His Eminence's selfless missionary life spans nearly fifty years. During this period he has helped to build many organizations and institutions around the world such as mosques, colleges and universities in America, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Belgium and India. Each institution helps to make a difference to hundreds of lives around the world. For example, Al-Jamiatul Islamia in Raunahi alone saw four hundred Ulemas graduate in 2011. He has also been honored with hundreds of awards and certificates of appreciation including the recent Mufti-e-Azam Gold Medal Award from the renowned Raza Academy in Mumbai. In honor of this, a collection of articles by scientists and key figures from the world on his selfless life and contributions has been published in the book Tajal-liyat-e-Qamar.

Maulana Shahid Raza OBE, Chairman of the British Mosques and Imams National Advisory Board (Minab) explains that it is his willingness to address without fear the great problems and challenges facing Muslims in the 21st century. And his person attracts people for his intellectuality, selflessness, simplicity, purity of heart, integrity and deep conviction.

He is known and admired for his public lectures that inspire millions of Muslims both young and older in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and North America. But he is also a great thinker and religious teacher who speaks with incredible intellectual energy. His lectures are extraordinary and thoughtful in choice of subjects.  


Maulana Shahid Raza OBE goes on to say:

Allama Azmi's primary concern is the revival of the Islamic attitude. He believes that the future of the Ummah is in the hands of the Muslims themselves rather than in the hands of the Western scientific and technological arena. Poverty and humiliation of Muslims in the The contemporary world has always had a primary concern for him, but he believes that Muslims themselves are largely responsible for this downfall, due to a lack of education, activism and spiritual care.

The Times of India wrote on November 2, 2010:

"Allama Azmi is without doubt the most sought after preacher of Ahle Sunnat wal Jamat, an important sect in Sunni Islam."[4]

Speaking on this occasion, he told that the students studying in English Medium School are going astray from Islam. He advised the students to study in a systematic way and get laurels to the Community. He also prayed for the welfare of the staff and students of the school. North Manchester Jamia Mosque is a Mosque in the Cheetham Hill area of Manchester, run under the headship of His Eminence Muffakir-e-Islam Hazrat Allama Maulana Qamaruzzaman Azmi by the Ibadur-Rahman Trust. : Islamic Scholar Allama Qamruzzaman Azmi (R) Gen Secretary of World Islamic Mission ,London is felicitated for his contribution to the community by the Raza Academy on Sunday.Azmi receives the award from Sunni cleric Maulana Syed Tahir Mian.Ref- Times of India, Mumbai Sunday[5] The Chief Imam of North Manchester Jamia Mosque and Secretary-General of the World Islamic Mission, Allama Qamaruz­zaman Azmi, said: "These people are not Muslims. There is nothing Islamic about them. They are simply pure evil. They have no place in our society. No place in our religion.
